Referees Assaulted in Ghana Premier League Game; Video Drops

A referee of a Ghana Premier League game between Real Tamale United (RTU) and Aduana Stars was assaulted after the fixture on Sunday, viral social media videos have shown.

Central referee Emmanuel Adu Quansah and his assistants Courage Kuedufia and Jaspa Adenyo were victims on the day; after the top-flight game ended 1-1 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

On the matchday, RTU took the lead through Baba Kushibi in the 32nd minute but an Eric Kwakwa strike in the 71st minute gave the visitors a well-deserved point.

Per reports, fans of the home side were displeased by the referees' performance and angrily vented their anger for perceived unfair officiating.

The irate fans broke into the inner-perimeter of the stadium and attacked the match officials.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the helpless officials were mobbed by fans but they were rescued later by the Police.

The barbaric fans accused the match officials of being unfair and thereby helping Aduana Stars to earn the draw.

Sports Brief earlier reported that an assistant referee in Ghana's Division One League had to run for his life after fans chased him for disallowing a goal between New Edubiase and Bekwai Youth FC.

New Edubiase had scored from a corner-kick but the linesman deemed it as offside which led to supporters of the club attacking him.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the linesman and his colleague officials had to run to save themselves from the irate fans.
