Kaizer Chiefs’ fans have reasons to celebrate after the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) arbitrator ruled in their favour.
Kaizer Chiefs took their dispute with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to SAFA after the PSL charged the club for failing to honour two fixtures last year.
The Amakhosi failed to play the fixtures due to a Covid19 outbreak at the club. The PSL then proceeded with disciplinary action against Chiefs, but the Soweto team took the fight to SAFA before the PSL could reach a verdict.
Now according to Times LIVE, Arbitrator Nazeer Cassim ruled in Chiefs’ favour and ordered that their two DStv Premiership matches be rescheduled.
The arbitration was heard over two days on 15 and 16 March, but a verdict was only expected to be delivered next week.
With six points now available from the two games, Chiefs realistically could challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title this season, iDiski Times reported.
Chiefs find themselves 16 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns but now have four games in hand. Winning all those games would leave them just four points shy of Sundowns, with seven games to play.
Chiefs next play Golden Arrows tomorrow evening, with a new goal to chase.
Despite the ruling, the PSL can still take the matter to a higher court to review.
