FootballFormer Liverpool Defender Sends Strong Warning to Mohamed Salah About Mistake Egyptian Set to Make
- Mohamed Salah is asking for a weekly salary of more than £300,000, which would make him by far Liverpool's highest-paid player
- The Egyptian’s current contract with the Reds will lapse in the summer of 2023 and he has been linked with Barcelona
- Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has cautioned the 29-year-old not to make a ‘mistake’ leaving the English club
A former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has disclosed that forward Mohamed Salah would be making a 'massive mistake' if he leaves the Premier League club this summer.
Salah has been linked with Spanish club Barcelona and his future remains uncertain as his contract with the Reds expires in 2023.
It was gathered that Liverpool are desperate to keep him at the club, but the Egyptian is yet to agree to a deal with them due to his wage demands.
Salah is said to be requesting for a weekly salary of more than £300,000, which would make him by far Liverpool's highest-paid player.
The 29-year-old recently told GQ that he is not asking for “crazy stuff” just to remain at the English club, but Jose Enrique wants the player to reach an agreement with Liverpool.
Enrique told SPORTbible as per Genting Casin*:
“I think it would be a big loss for him and for the club [if he left]. At the moment he is being completely respectful. I respect both sides to be honest. Salah is seeing other world-class players who are playing in different positions but are earning a lot more than him.
“He could ask ‘why am I not earning what they are earning? I am the best player this season in the Premier League, and in the world as well.’
“I understand his position and I understand at the same time the club’s position as well. They have a wage structure at the club. I’m sure they will want Salah to be the best earner at the club, but they maybe don’t want to approach those numbers.”

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Mohammed Salah has been identified as the preferred candidate to join Spanish giants Barcelona ahead of next summer.
The Egyptian forward has scored 20 Premier League goals already this season for Liverpool but is yet to sign a new deal with the Reds.
Salah is Laporta's preferred alternative if they cannot land Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Talks have already been held between Barcelona and the Egyptian's entourage about a possible exit from Liverpool.
