In a statement released by the club, Al Ahly stated that Sundowns’ fans stopped the bus carrying Al Ahly’s first team while en route to FNB Stadium. The club also stated that they had to use another route to get to the stadium, which then led to them being late.

Following the match, Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane had a mini outburst as he asked Sundowns’ supporters to leave him alone, adding that he didn’t know what they wanted from him, iDiski Times reported.

Sundowns then promised to thoroughly investigate the matter and take disciplinary action against all those found responsible.

Mamelodi Sundowns Chairman, Tlhopane Motsepe, has since issued a statement back to Al Ahly, adding that they found no fans were responsible for the delay, The South African reported.

“The preliminary information that we received, indicates that the delay was caused by a traffic jam on the road leading to FNB Stadium where spectators joined the Al Ahly convoy while it was travelling to the stadium, the statement read.”

Motsepe added that they were committed to building and maintaining a good relationship with the Egyptian Club. Mosimane has yet to react to Sundowns’ findings on the matter.

CAF Champions League: Fallout continues as Mamelodi Sundowns investigates Al Ahly bus blockage

Mamelodi Sundowns will investigate an alleged incident that occurred before the CAF Champions League match against Egypt's Al Ahly at the FNB Stadium near Soweto, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The Al Ahly convoy was reported to have been blockaded by sparsely-numbered Sundowns fans as it approached the venue, leading to its delay in entering the stadium's premises. The visitors revealed in a statement on the club website, before the game, that they had subsequently submitted a complaint to CAF's match commissioner.

Sundowns has since released a statement on its website, responding to Ahly's complaint by intending to investigate the incident, including taking disciplinary measures against those responsible.
