Nigerian striker suspends contract with top Russian club due to the country's invasion of Ukraine

Nigerian striker Sylvester Igboun has suspended his contract at Russian club Nizhny Novgorod due to the ongoing invasion of the European nation over Ukraine.

For for the past days, there have been serious pressure and tension in Ukraine due to the attack from Russia with many people reported to have lost their lives.

Football and all major sporting activities have also been suspended in these two nations with world leaders trying to settle the conflict so that there can be truce.

It was in February 2022 that Sylvester Igboun joined Russian club Nizhny Novgorod and the Nigerian striker has only played one game for them.

According to the report on Complete Sports, Nizhny Novgorod got promotion to the Russian topflight for 2021/22 season since the club was created in 2015.

Who is Sylvester Igboun?

Sylvester Igboun made his international debut for Nigeria in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game against Tanzania on 5 September 2015, replacing Moses Simon as a substitute in the 69th minute.

The 31-year-old went on to play six games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former Nigeria international Garba Lawal warned the current Super Eagles players to be mentally and physically ready for their coming 2022 World Cup final play-off against Ghana this month.

Nigerians home and abroad will know on March 29 if the Super Eagles would be going to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after the two-legged battles against the Ghana national team.

Ghana will be at home for the first encounter which will be played on March 25 in Accra before traveling to Abuja to face the Super Eagles in the return fixture four days later.

Garba Lawal explained that the Super Eagles should beware of Ghana's antics and tactics for the first battle in Accra.

Sports Brief also reported how two players are expected to be dropped from the 25-man Super Eagles squad called for this month's final 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off against Ghanaian national team.

This latest development means that only 23 players will travel to Ghana for the first encounter against the Black Stars which is expected to come on March 25 in Accra.

From this weekend, invited players are expected to be arriving the Super Eagles camp in Abuja where training will commence before the team will travel on March 23.
