Cristiano Ronaldo is now set to end the ongoing season trophyless for the first time in the last 12 years of his glorious football career after Manchester United were sent out of the Champions League.

Manchester United's campaign this season in the Champions League came to an end on Tuesday night, 15 March, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their round of 16 clash.

Having gotten a 1-1 draw in the first encounter in Spain, the expectation of all Manchester United fans was that their players would soar at Old Trafford and zoom to the quarterfinal.

However, things did not go as expected as Renan Lodi's 41st-minute strike condemned Manchester United to a 1-0 defeat and crashed out 2-1 on aggregate against Atletico Madrid.

According to the report in The Sun and Mirror, Cristiano Ronaldo was caged against Atletico Madrid and failed to get an effort on goal at Old Trafford.
