As reported by Soccer Laduma, Brandon Petersen had torn an abdominal muscle while training and was currently undergoing treatment for the injury.

Petersen had been in tremendous form for the Amakhosi and soon became the number one choice goalkeeper for the team. He also received a call up to Bafana’s provisional squad for the upcoming friendlies.

Hugo Broos has since confirmed that Petersen didn’t make the final 23-man squad because of the injury he suffered, iDiski Times confirmed.

“I would have loved to select him because I am looking for South African goalkeepers playing regularly for their clubs, but unfortunately he is injured,” Broos said during a recent live broadcast.

Bruce Bvuma is favourite to take over the gloves at the Amakhosi side but Itumuleng Khune will be hoping that this is his chance to stake his place in the team.

Itu last played for the Amakhosi in August 2021 but did feature in the Compact Cup earlier this year. The legendary keeper has previously stated that he will only retire when Gianluigi Buffon did and would fight for his place in the Kaizer Chiefs setup.

Hugo Broos names Bafana squad ahead of friendlies, Brandon Petersen and Victor Letsoalo among those left out

Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has officially named his 23-man squad that will take on Guinea and France in two upcoming friendly matches.

Bafana will take on Guinea on 25 March in Belgium, before taking on World Champions, France, in France on 29 March.

As reported by Soccer Laduma, Broos originally named a provisional squad for the friendlies, a squad that featured four overseas players and numerous debutants. Broos has since whittled that squad down to the final 23 that will compete in the friendlies.
