FootballLiverpool Legend Slams ‘Hypocritical’ Chelsea Fans for Criticizing His Comments on Tuchel
- Jamie Carragher has hit out at supporters of Chelsea and argued that the Blues operated in a similarly ruthless manner since Abramovich bought the club in 2003
- The Sky Sports pundit earlier suggested Manchester United should hire the services of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel on the back of the uncertainty at Stamford Bridge
- Tuchel whose future was rumoured to be hanging in the balance has assured he is not ending his ties with the reigning European champions
Former England defender Jamie Carragher has labelled supporters of Chelsea as 'hypocrites' following his Thomas Tuchel recommendation for Manchester United.
The former defender turned pundit, who was unapologetic about his suggestion, argued Chelsea had a similar brutal policy under the embattled Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
The German tactician ascended the Chelsea hot seat in the middle of last season and has since gone on to etch his name in gold at Chelsea winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
His achievements in the short span at Stamford Bridge led to Carragher prompting the Red Devils to go in for the German as the Red Devils will be without a manager in summer when interim manager Ralf Rangnick assumes the Technical Director role at Old Trafford.
In a fiery speech on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender claimed he had been lambasted by a section of Chelsea fanatics for encouraging United to take “advantage” of the tension at the London-based outfit.
“It is fair to say I had a few heated discussions at Stamford Bridge yesterday [Sunday]. The Chelsea supporters, the same as any set of supporters, are very passionate about their club and at this moment feel like the world is attacking them,” Carragher said.
“They are defending their club and I totally get that. There were a few conversations about that and I wouldn’t change my opinion on it. The reason I feel like it’s a little bit hypocritical from Chelsea supporters is that if teams, whether that’s Manchester United with the manager or people thinking they can get Chelsea players, [they] are going to take advantage of the situation that they are in right now… Chelsea has been doing that for 20 years." He ended.
