Cristiano Ronaldo has become football's all-time leading goalscorer for both club and country following his Man United heroics against Tottenham Hotspur.

Fresh from an alleged hip injury, Ronaldo used the Spurs clash to prove why he is one of the best footballers in history.

The Man United attacker scored a sensational hat-trick during the Saturday, March 12, encounter to help his side bag the three points and renew their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Ronaldo inspires Man United to victory over Tottenham

The 37-year-old scored the opener for United in the 12th minute with a thunderous strike, before Harry Kane equalised from the spot in the 35th minute.

However, Ronaldo ensured the Red Devils headed into the break the better side as he restored his side's lead before half-time.

Harry Maguire helped Spurs draw level with an own goal in the 72nd minute but Ronaldo headed home his third with nine minutes left on the clock to inspire Ralf Rangnick's charges to victory.

Ronaldo becomes the leading goal scorer in the history of football

Meanwhile, Ronaldo's three goals earned him a place in history books as he became the leading goal scorer in the history of football for both club and country.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has now scored a total of 807 goals in his career, beating Austrian-Czech Josef Bican's record of 805 goals.

The hat-trick was Ronaldo's first since his second return to Old Trafford from Juventus this season.
