Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has disclosed his side fell to home defeat primarily because they were complacent.
Liverpool had gone on an incredible stretch of 15 games unbeaten with their last defeat dating December 28, 2021, when the Reds lost to Leicester City in the English Premier League.
For good measure, the Reds had not lost a game since the start of 2022 and basking in such winning momentum, Salah and his teammates might be pardoned for being overconfident prior to the match.
The six-time European champions went into the second leg tie against Inter Milan with a 2-0 advantage from the reverse fixture but had to succumb to a narrow defeat to the Nerazurris.
Sharing his thoughts after the game the 2021 AFCON finalist opined his side were complacent in the game.
"We need to start better from the beginning, we need to push a little bit more, maybe in the back of our mind we felt we were a little bit overconfident, but it’s a good game for us to take and learn from," Salah told BT Sport.
Despite admitting his side started the game on a slow note, Salah also rued the missed chances of which he missed two.
"It’s always important to win a game, but like tonight we hit the post twice, had a lot of chances, but that can happen in football and the good thing is that we qualified."
