Arsenal beat Wolves 2:1, Alexandre Lacazette leaves it late to fire The Gunners into 5th place in the league
FootballFootball Fans Divided on Alexis Sanchez’s Red Card Incident Against Liverpool
- Alexis Sanchez received a red card for a late lunge into Liverpool's Thiago Alcantara as the Reds edged past the Nerazurris to book a quarterfinal spot
- The Reds had earlier recorded a 2-0 win at the Guiseppe Meazza Stadium three weeks ago only to lose at Anfield on Tuesday night
- Lautaro Martinez scored his first goal of the Champions League but his effort was woefully inadequate as Liverpool qualified on aggregate
Former Manchester United attacker Alexis Sanchez had a sour night at Anfield when he received his marching orders on controversial basis.
The Chilean international was paired with Argentine Lautaro Martinez as the Nerazurris aimed to stun Liverpool at their fortress.
A goalless first half did not perturb Simone Inzaghi's side who probed for a goal and were duly rewarded when Sanchez set up Martinez for the game's opener after the half hour mark.
But in a space of two minutes, Sanchez went from contributing a goal to receiving his marching orders when his late tackle caught Thiago despite winning the ball.
The incident has since sparked mixed reactions among football enthusiasts with a school of thought suggesting the red card was harsh while the other side of the divide opine the referee's decision was spot-on.
What were the reactions of fans after Sanchez was shown a red card
"The funniest part of it all is that Alexis Sanchez got the ball, LiVARpool always wins I guess.." a sarcastic @DonKylian intimated.
"Alexis Sanchez clearly won the ball here. Liverpool getting helped out as always." @DOFFISHAL agreed with @DonKylian.
"Just seen Sánchez’ red card. I’m on record in saying I don’t like those types of fouls being carded. If he went with his studs and landed with studs then I agree but a flick up to studs is penalising a flick up which I think is too much. Foul, sure. Yellow, not for me." @UtdArena tweeted.
"Horrible studs up challenge from Sanchez on Thiago. Belatedly booked"@JamesPearceLFC argued.

Liverpool stumble to home defeat but seal quarterfinal berth
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Liverpool scraped to the Champions League quarter-final thanks to a 2-1 aggregate win over Inter Milan in the last 16.
Inter Milan ended Liverpool’s unbeaten run at Anfield with a 1-0 victory, but it was not enough to see them through to the next round.
Lautaro Martinez got the only goal of the game at the hour mark on Tuesday, March 9 as Inter Milan ended the game with 10 men after Alexis Sanchez’s dismissal moments after his side took the lead.
