It’s going from bad to worse for Mamelodi Sundowns’ Gaston Sirino.
Just three weeks after being sidelined with a broken nose, the Uruguayan has picked up another injury while competing in a friendly game.
Sirino was originally injured during Sundowns’ CAF Champions League opening game against Al Hilal when a nasty accidental clash with an opposition player left him with a broken nose.
As a result, he was unavailable for the team’s other CAF encounters again Al Merrikh and Al Ahly and missed their DStv Premiership games as well.
While participating in a friendly match to boost his fitness ahead of a return to the squad, Sirino sadly picked up a calf strain, Soccer Laduma reported.
Co-coach, Rulani Mokwena confirmed that the player was back on the injury list due to the strain and would miss out on the Nedbank Cup game against Mathaithai FC.
He could also miss out on the game against Al Ahly too.
Sirino’s new injury sees him join a growing list of Sundowns’ players who are currently out of action.
As reported by Goal.com, Denis Onyango, Erwin Saavedra, Pavol Safranko, Rivaldo Coetzee, Mosa Lebusa and Gift Motupa are all unavailable. Mokwena could also not disclose when any of the injured players would be back in the squad.
Mamelodi Sundowns also confirmed the injury list on their Twitter account.
With Masandawana still competing on three fronts, the depth of their squad is now more important than ever.
