- Toure, who was working as a pundit for the match between Watford and Arsenal contends Dennis plays for himself
- Dennis has been named in coach Augustine Eguavoen's star-studded squad to lock horns against Ghana in the FIFA World Cup qualifier
Ivorian legend Yaya Toure has issued a warning to Super Eagles interim manager Augustine Eguavoen over the inclusion of Emmanuel Dennis in his squad to face Ghana.
Dennis, who plays for Watford in the English Premier League, is part of Eguavoen's highly intimidating attacking machinery and he will be expected to help the Super Eagles soar over the Black Stars.
The 24-year-old forward missed out of Super Eagles squad which bowed out of the round-of-16 at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to a mishap between Watford and his native Nigeria.
Dennis, who recently saw his goal against Arsenal chopped off in their narrow loss at home, came under some backlash from the Manchester City legend about his total contribution to the team.
Speaking after Watford's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal during the weekend, Toure stated that Dennis could hurt opposition players more if he plays more with the team.
"Dennis is the top scorer and he looks very much the player who can hurt Arsenal but he appears to be playing for himself. He doesn’t put in enough work without the ball and even during kickoff, he didn’t take the knee with the rest of the team. He can do more for the team." Toure ended.
