Siphesihle Ndlovu has urged his Orlando Pirates teammates to put the Soweto Derby loss behind them and shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup.
The Buccaneers take on Marumo Gallants in the Round of 16 in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday, 8 March.
“Now we have to concentrate on the Nedbank Cup and forget about the derby loss. It is an opportunity to lift some silverware,” he said.
Ndlovu, who has been on the fringes of the matchday squad in recent games, said he was disappointed that he was not part of the team that took on Kaizer Chiefs, but acknowledged that competition for places was very high in the team, The Citizen reported.
“We have a big squad and everyone has to fight for their place in the line-up. So, I won’t just relax, I will keep working hard,” he added.
With Pirates' next fixture coming in the Nedbank Cup, co-coach Fadlu Davids also echoed Ndlovu’s sentiments, IOL reported.
“We have three competitions that we are heavily involved in. The Nedbank Cup is our next priority, Davids said.
Orlando Pirates are still in the running for the Nedbank Cup and are showing good form in the CAF Confederation Cup. On Sunday, 12 March, Pirates will take on Royal Leopards in the Confederation Cup, looking to repeat their 6-2 demolition of the Eswatini side. But before that, they will have to overcome a tough Gallants side, who Davids admitted would be no pushovers.

Heavyweight broadcaster Robert Marawa, the voice of sports media in South Africa, celebrates 49th birthday
BoxingKaizer Chiefs have beaten their Sowetan rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1. The Amakhosi won the Soweto Derby, thanks to a stunning long-range effort by Reeve Frosler and a late header, from a corner, by Eric Matoho.
Ina game that Sports Brief monitored, Reeve Frosler gave Chiefs the lead, which was pegged back by Kwame Peprah, but Mathoho’s goal decided the tie. The start of the game lived up to the hype as both teams went at it from the get-go.
Within the first five minutes, it was end-to-end stuff as both teams looked to get the perfect start. Chiefs looked the more threatening side and could have gone a goal ahead as early as the 10th minute. The Amakhosi countered a Pirates corner but could not find a final pass.
