Former Nigeria President, Olusegun Obasanjo celebrated his birthday in style as he was on the scoresheet twice for his 5-Aside team as they defeated a selected group of friends to mark his 85th birthday.

The game was played at the 5-Aside football pitch of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to a report via Channels TV, the game had in attendance, the President of Benin Republic, Nicephore Soglo, and former Attorney General of Nigeria, Chief Bayo Ojo.

The 85-year-old Obasanjo captained his 5-Aside team as they defeated the Ogun State-led team by 4-2 with the former President getting a brace in the game.

Olusegun Obasanjo was Nigeria's first elected democratic president after winning the 1999 elections.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele has hailed former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo after the 85-year-old scored a brace in a novelty game Pulse Sports reports.

Speaking after the 5-Aside game in which Obasanjo scored two goals, Salako-Oyedele prayed for Obasanjo revealed he can't wait to be part of the next edition.

“As part of the events commemorating the 85th Birthday of our Elder Statesman, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, I captained the Ogun State 5-a-side team against the OOPL, one captained by Baba himself.

“It was a goal-fest with Baba scoring several goals himself.

“May Almighty preserve us all to celebrate with Baba again next year in good health.”

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Nigerian gold medalist at Atlanta 1996 Olympics Games Chioma Ajunwa has got the blessing of former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in her quest to float a sporting foundation.

Ajunwa, an assistant commissioner of police, is the founder of Chioma Ajunwa Foundation, which seeks to encourage youth participation in sports as a way of discouraging crime.

The 50-year-old who spoke shortly after visiting the former President at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Pent House residence said she got the support and blessing of the elder statesman during the visit.
