William Troost-Ekong has been ruled out of Nigeria's upcoming World Cup play-offs against the Black Stars of Ghana after picking up a late injury.
The Watford defender was expected to lead the Super Eagles against their West African neighbours after being listed in Nigeria's squad for the crucial game.
According to a report via Sportsration, Watford manager, Roy Hodgson has confirmed Ekong will be sidelined for a long time after picking up a muscle strain alongside teammate Sar.
“Troost-Ekong has suffered a similar injury, will be out for the foreseeable future.
“It’s a muscle strain, the same with Troost-Ekong.
“It’s going to keep them both out of the equation for the foreseeable future, but I don’t know how long exactly.
Ekong will be out of action for close to four weeks and is expected to be replaced in the Super Eagles squad by coach Augustine Eguavoen ahead of the trip to Ghana.

Meanwhile, Bernard Don Bortey believes Ghana has enough quality players to cause an upset against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup play-offs.
According to Daily Post, the former Ghana attacker says the rivalry between both nations will play a key part in determining who comes out successful.
Bortey says big names will not decide the outcome of the crucial World Cup qualifiers but it will go down to who wants it most on the day.

Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick in a recent trip to the UK had seen and spoken to Dennis to have which might have led to the striker's recall.
