FootballFormer Premier League Star Accuses Manchester United Defender of Failing to Adapt to EPL Intensity
- Danny Mills believes World Cup winner Raphael Varane has failed to adapt to the toughness in the Premier League since joining Manchester United
- The French defender made an exciting £34million move to Manchester from Real Madrid last summer, signing a four-year deal with the Red Devils
- Varane has made 16 Premier League outings for the Red Devils so far this season, with a further four appearances coming in the Champions League
Manchester United's summer signing, Raphael Varane has been called out by former Premier League player Danny Mills for failing to adapt to the Premier League.
Varane joined Manchester United from Real Madrid last summer for £34million after ten seasons with the Spanish Giants.
According to the Mirror, Mills believes the World Cup winner has struggled with the intensity in the Premier League because the French defender isn't used to such high-level football being played weekly.
"I questioned Varane’s signing when he first came in and whether he could deal with the intensity of our league.
"He had quite a few injury problems.
"In La Liga, you’re probably playing seven or eight tough games a season; in the Premier League, every week is a tough game."
Raphael Varane has made just 22 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions this season, with 16 in the EPL, 4 in the Champions League, and 2 FA Cup appearances.
Maguire's continued selection worries Manchester United players
Meanwhile, Manchester United's players are growing increasingly exhausted of the continuous selection of Harry Maguire in games.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Maguire's place in the starting line-up at the Old Trafford club has reportedly been questioned by other players in the squad.
The United captain has had an average season for the Red Devils this term with recent poor displays in the home draws against Burnley, Southampton, and Atletico Madrid.
