FootballJohn Terry: Chelsea Legend in Trouble Over Twitter Message to Roman Abramovic
- John Terry’s tweet about Roman Abramovic was met by criticism on social media amid the war in Ukraine
- The former Chelsea captain shared an image of himself alongside Russian billionaire and club owner Roman Abramovic
- His tweet was meant to appreciate Abramovic hours after an announcement that he intended to sell the club
John Terry’s appreciation tweet towards Russian billionaire Roman Abramovic was met by strong opposition from Labour MP Chris Bryant.
Terry, who enjoyed a very successful spell at Chelsea under the ownership of Abramovic, took to Twitter on Thursday, March 3 to hail the Russian billionaire for the contribution he brought to the club since the takeover in 2003.
He posted a picture of himself lifting the Premier League trophy alongside Abramovic with the caption, “The best”.
The post has since received more than 10,000 retweets, and thousands of comments, including one from Bryant, who was not impressed with the Chelsea legend.
"This is appalling,” Bryant tweeted.
"I think John Terry you should take this down ASAP. The people of Ukraine are being bombed, shelled and murdered while you celebrate Abramovich."
Despite having ties with Russia President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, Abramovic is a household name among Chelsea fans, who consider him an important part of the club’s history.
Since taking ownership of the club in 2003, Abramovic has overseen tremendous success with Chelsea, winning a total of 21 trophies.
Notably, Chelsea has now won every trophy imaginable in club level after the recent success at the Club World Cup.
Bryant’s take on Abramovic
As reported by Daily Mail, the Labor MP has openly expressed his discontent on matters regarding Roman Abramovic since Russia began the invasion of Ukraine last week.
Earlier in the week, Bryant alleged that Abramovic was selling his home and apartment because he was afraid of being sanctioned.

Meanwhile, Abramovic has since released a statement announcing his intentions to sell Chelsea Football Club.
Abramovich's drastic decision to sell the club came just days after he handed over his ‘stewardship and care’ to trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation.
The Russian billionaire is prepared to do a deal within days if he gets the offer he wants, with the club’s estimated value set at £4 billion.
