John Terry has penned a special tribute to Roman Abramovich after the Russian billionaire confirmed he is selling Chelsea.

Abramovich, who bought the Blues back in 2003, announced his decision to let go the club on Wednesday, March 2, amid fears he could be sanctioned by the UK government over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The announcement took many of Chelsea's fans by surprise, with Abramovich revealing he made the decision in the best interest of the club.

In a statement posted on the west London club's official website, the 55-year-old admitted the decision to put Chelsea up for sale was a difficult one to make.

John Terry pays tribute to Roman Abramovich

Terry is among millions of Blues fans from around the world who have taken time to pay tribute to Abramovich, with the legendary defender hailing the Russian as "the best owner in the world."

"Thank you Roman @chelseafc," Terry posted on Instagram.
"The best owner in the WORLD," he added.

Terry's career at Stamford Bridge

The former England international had a rare privilege of spending much of his Stamford Bridge career during Abramovich's era.

The 41-year-old spent 19 years at the club, making over 490 appearances for the Blues, scoring 41-goals in the process.

Despite departing in 2017, the iconic centre-back made a return to the club last December to assist with coaching in the club's academy.
