Liverpool reach the quarterfinal of the Emirates FA Cup following a 2-1 win over impressive Norwich in the fifth round of the competition, BBC reports.
It was Takumi Minamino who grabbed a brace for Jurgen Klopp’s men to send the Reds into the last eight of the competition as they keep their title hopes alive.
But the final 15 minutes of the encounter was nervy after Lukas Pupp pulled one back for the visitors, but the Anfield side held on for the victory.
It is Jurgen Klopp’s first FA Cup quarterfinal since he became Liverpool manager, but they did well to reach the stage despite the absence of star players like Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool faced fierce opposition from Norwich and it took 27 minutes before they could open the scoring after Divock Origi superbly found Minamino, who tucked the ball past a helpless Tim Krul from inside the area.
And in the 39th minute, it was 2-0 for the home side after Minamino got at the end of the ball yet again to double his side’s advantage.
However, with 14 minutes left to play, the Brazilian could do nothing as Pupp had a pop from a distance that sailed into the Liverpool net to half the deficit.
The goal seemed to give the away side renewed hope as they piled on the pressure in search of the second goal, but that was how it ended; Liverpool 2-1 Norwich.
