  • Callum Hudson-Odoi has revealed that he ignored England U21 invites to concentrate on getting into the Chelsea team
  • The Chelsea youngster rejected two call-ups last year as reports intensified he was switching nationality to play for Ghana
  • The English-born is eligible to play for Ghana despite playing three times for the Three Lions of England

Callum Hudson-Odoi has rejected claims that he is arrogant for rejecting an England U21 invite last year as he forced his way into the senior team of the Three Lions.

According to the 21-year-old, he wanted to concentrate on breaking into the Chelsea team after fully recovering from injury.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Ghana target says people misinterpreted his intentions and he was just trying to focus on his club career.

"I didn’t not go to England because I thought I was bigger than them or I was being big time or anything like that," he said.
"It was just me trying to get back into the team in Chelsea and focusing on club football as much as possible: to be a regular player, an option to always play and be involved.
"People thought: “Oh, he’s being big time or arrogant”. Or he’s being somebody he shouldn’t be. I’m not that person at all."

The youngster is enjoying a good season with the Blues, having made 26 appearances across all competitions and scored two goals for the club.

Hudson-Odoi has taken time to win over German trainer Thomas Tuchel after earlier reports of wanting to leave because of lack of playing time.

Callum Hudson-Odoi yet to decide on international future

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Callum Hudson-Odoi has stated emphatically that he is yet to make final decision on the country he will represent between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Three-Lions of England.

The Chelsea star has represented England at every youth level from U16 to U21 before making his first senior international appearance in 2019.

However, the 21-year-old is still eligible to play for another national team at full international level and Ghana are said to start speaking with the Chelsea star over switching allegiance.
