According to the Punch, no fewer than seven overseas-born players of Nigerian descent and those who hold dual citizenship were invited for the game against Ivory Coast.

Waldrum has now disclosed the technical crew has met the initial target set for the team but that he hopes to build a team that can challenge the World’s best teams.

“Our initial mandate as given by the NFF was to qualify the team for the Women AFCON in Morocco. That, we have achieved.
“We also had in mind the imperative of building a squad with the strength, stamina and technical balance to give the world’s best teams a good run for their money, any day and anywhere.”

Waldrum sets World Cup qualification as next target for Falcons

Meanwhile, Randy Waldrum says booking a spot in next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is top priority for the Super Falcons.

According to the Vanguard, the Super Falcons were recently stranded at the Airport following their arrival from the Ivory Coast due to a misunderstanding with officials over Covid-19 test.

The 65-year-old coach is not letting that distract his team as he believes the set of players at his disposal in the Super Falcons are capable of getting the job done.

The Falcons have been to every single edition of the FIFA World Cup since the competition was launched in 1991.

Nigeria Qualify for Big Tournament After Beating Ivory Coast

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) after beating Ivory Coast 1-0 in Abidjan.

The Ivorian women went into this game with the target of overcoming their 2-0 first leg defeat in Abuja against the Super Falcons, but they were unable to impress their faithfuls at home.

They started the match impressively trying to cage the Super Falcons, but the Nigerian side were more determined and they refused to be intimidated on the pitch.
