FootballBorussia Dortmund Identify Chelsea Flop as Erling Haaland's Replacement
- Werner spent four successful years at RB Leipzig where he established himself as a lethal striker
- The German has however struggled in his first two seasons at Chelsea since securing a £45m in 2020
- Latest rumours suggest Werner could be on his way back to the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund very interested
Borussia Dortmund are considering making a move for Timo Werner in stunning new reports.
According to Sky Germany, Dortmund would have no problem taking up the services of Werner, who has failed to establish himself in England.
The German striker is in his second spell at Chelsea but is not only struggling for goals, but game time as well.
So far this season, Werner has managed just six starts in the league, with Thomas Tuchel preferring Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku upfront.
With Erling Haaland reportedly on the verge of a huge summer transfer away from Dortmund, the German club is looking to replace the Norwegian with Werner.
In terms of his best football, Werner was most prolific playing for Leipzig in the Bundesliga before the £45m to Chelsea.
Before moving to England, Werner was raking up impressive numbers at Leipzig, scoring 28 goals in 34 league games, in the 2019/2020 campaign.
It is worth noting, however, that Werner is not necessarily Dortmund’s first choice to replace Haaland.
Karim Adeyemi of RB Salzburg is another highly-rated forward on Dortmund’s radar, although Salzburg’s valuation of the striker might repel the German club.
Erling Haaland latest
As far as Haaland’s future is concerned, Manchester City are the new favourites to sign the talented forward.
A recent report by Spanish newspaper SER Deportivos claimed Haaland refused a contract renewal at Dortmund, sparking rumours of a possible transfer in the summer.
The 21-year old has a €75 million release clause which is set to be activated in the summer.
Real Madrid is another club that is ready to rival other European giants for Haaland, who is considered a generational talent.
