English Born Ghanaian Striker Kwame Poku Shines Against Manchester City in FA Cup

Ghanaian forward Kwame Poku featured in Peterborough United's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the English FA Cup.

The 20-year-old started for the Posh once again in the domestic cup game on Tuesday night.

The striker lasted 71 minutes as Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish scored the two goals that sent Pep Guardiola and his wards to the quarterfinal.

The former Colchester United player impressed but Grant McCann's side were unlucky as two second half goals condemned them to another defeat.

Poku won more four duels and completed more dribbles in the game - the most by a Peterborough player against Pep Guardiola's side. He's created two of Peterborough's five shots on the night.

Manchester City waited until the 60th minute before Riyad Mahrez scored the first goal for them, and seven minutes later, Jack Grealish netted the second and winner.

Who is Kwame Poku?

Kwame Poku was born in London to Ghanaian parents on 11th August, 2001. He has played for a host of lower division clubs in England including Cray Wanderers, Worthing and Colchester United.

He joined Peterborough United on a four-year deal in August 2021.

Kwame Poku made his international debut for Ghana's senior national team in March last year when he came on for Mohammed Kudus in the Black Stars' 3–1 victory over São Tomé and Príncipe at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian-born English forward Eddie Nketiah has won the top scorer’s accolade in the recently ended Carabao Cup in England.

The 2021/22 Carabao Cup campaign came to an end on Sunday, 27th February, 2022 when Liverpool faced Chelsea in a thrilling final staged at Wembley Stadium.

The Reds won the title after they stunned the Blues 10-11 on penalties, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, who came on for the shootout missing the decisive spot kick.
