- The president of Russia Vladimir Putin has been condemned for his actions and more sanctions are being imposed
The world’s football governing body FIFA has ordered sanctions on the Russian national football teams in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, Daily Star reports.
Russia launched a full-scale war on the neighbouring country as airstrikes continue to rain, while troops continue to attack on the ground.
President Vladimir Putin has been condemned for the action and several countries are beginning to impose sanctions against the country.
The world's football governing body, in a statement, announced that no international football match shall be played in the country, as their home games will be played on neutral ground and without spectators.
The statement said:
"First and foremost, FIFA would like to reiterate its condemnation of the use of force by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.
"Violence is never a solution and FIFA expresses its deepest solidarity to all people affected by what is happening in Ukraine."
It appears these sanctions have not gone down well with World Cup playoffs opponents Sweden, Poland and Czech Republic, who have all said they will not play Russia.
The Czech Republic were the last of the trio to announce the plan, explaining all on Sunday morning. The country said:
"The Czech FA executive committee, staff members and players of the national team agreed it’s not possible to play against the Russian national team in the current situation, not even on the neutral venue."
