Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has applauded the Polish Football Association for pulling out of their World Cup qualifier against Russia.
Poland were scheduled to play Russia next month, but following the conflict between the latter and neighbouring Ukraine, the Eagles have decided to withdraw from the game.
Lewandowski, who is captain of Poland said on Twitter it was the right decision by the the Polish federation.
"It is the right decision! I can’t imagine playing a match with the Russian National Team in a situation when armed aggression in Ukraine continues. Russian footballers and fans are not responsible for this, but we can’t pretend that nothing is happening," wrote the Bayern Munich attacker.
It is yet to be seen what FIFA Will do about the Poland's decision.
Meanwhile, Russia have been in Ukraine territory since Thursday as the conflict between the two countries drags on.
The Polish FA President releases statement on Russia game
Poland Football Association President Cezary Kulesza has disclosed the national team will not honour their game against Russia in the FIFA World Cup qualifier next month.
He wrote: "No more words, time to act! Due to the escalation of the aggression of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine, the Polish national team does not intend to play the play-off match against the republic of Poland. Russia. This is the only right decision. We are in talks with the Sweden and Czech federations to present a common position to FIFA."
