The tournament is the modern version of the UEFA Intertoto Cup, a third-tier European competition that last took place in the 2007/08 football season.
Olympique Marseille, champions of 1993, were drawn to take on Switzerland's FC Basel in the prestigious tie of the round.
Leicester City, seeking its first-ever European title, will have to negotiate past French side Stade Rennais FC.
Vitesse Arnhem of the Netherlands got Italian heavyweights AS Roma, whose coach Jose Mourinho could become the first manager in history to win first (Champions League), second (Europa League), and third-tier competitions.
