Barcelona and Napoli players have sent a touching message to leaders of Russia and Ukraine to end the dispute that has already claimed lives of innocent citizens.

Reports in the early hours of Thursday indicated a Russian invasion of the Ukraine, leaving many worried about the situation in the eastern European country.

Before the Europa league game between Barcelona and Napoli, the two clubs walked onto the Stadio San Paolo pitch with a banner that read 'stop war'.

It is understood that the people of Ukraine have started leaving their homes for fear of their lives.

Meanwhile, the message from Barcelona and Napoli as well as some high sporting personalities will lead to the seize of fire from Russia.

Russian footballer Fedor Smolov warns against war

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Fedor Smolov who plays for Dynamo Moscow has become the first recognized Russian footballer to speak up against the war declared on Ukraine by Vladimir Putin.

The Russian President on Thursday, February 24 declared war on its neighbours Ukraine and has started sending troops around the border for a potential invasion of the Eastern European country in the coming days.

According to a report via Sports Bible, the 32-year-old took to social media and posted a black square with the caption 'No War,' which also included a Ukraine flag and a broken heart.

Barcelona through to Europa League last 16

Barcelona are through to the Round of 16 of this season's Europa League following a 4-2 win over Napoli to edge the Italian side 5-3 on aggregates.
