The government of Senegal has outdoored the country's newly-built state of the art stadium in Diamniadio in the presence of thousands of fans of the national team.
Having won the Africa Cup of Nations early this month, the West African football powerhouse followed their success with the completion of the stadium which will host all their international matches.
At a ceremony in the country's capital Dakar, Senegal President Macky Sall revealed the stadium is named after the former head of state, Abdoulaye Wade.
"Tribute to the multidimensional, intellectual, pan-Africanist politician," said Macky Sall.
"This beautiful infrastructure – dedicated to young people – is an invitation to continue our path towards success," he added.
The stadium is a 50,000 capacity seater stadium located in Diamniadio just 30 kilometres from the capital Dakar.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Fifa boss Gianni Infantino were among the top dignitaries to grace the occasion.
Meanwhile, the stadium's first game saw African football legends including Ghana's Asamoah Gyan and Nigeria's Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha face Senegal's legends in a friendly encounter.
The Abdoulaye Wade will host Senegal's World Cup play-off against Egypt in March.
Ghanaian football legends invited to the inauguration of Senegal's new stadium
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian football greats, Asamoah Gyan, Anthony Baffoe and Samuel Osei Kuffuor have been invited to the grand opening of Senegal's newly-built multi-purpose stadium.
The former Ghana captain and the two ex-defenders will join other African football legends to play Senegal's former football stars in an inaugural game.

FootballSenegal's Minister of Sports, Matar Bâ confirmed the game will be played at the new stadium while they will also be the presentation of the trophy to the people of the country.
