- Mduduzi Shabalala could be called up to the Kaizer Chiefs senior squad due to his performances for the reserves
Mduduzi Shabalala could get his chance to shine in the Kaizer Chiefs' first team this season.
The youngster has impressed in the DStv Diski Challenge thus far for the Amakhosi and his performances have caught the eye of senior management at the club. Shabalala even scored a hattrick in January.
As reported by The South African, Shabalala’s goal-scoring and performances, in general, have become a talking point among fans and management.
As a result, he was scouted by Barcelona in Spain and was also voted into the Warriors squad for the recent DStv Compact Cup
With Kaizer Chiefs failing to score any goals this year so far, the Amakhosi are in need of firepower upfront. According to Soccer Laduma, the Amakhosi’s DStv Diski Challenge coach, Vela Khumalo, has given his recommendation about the player, to the senior team’s coaches. Khumalo feels that the young striker is ready to step up, as he has already proved himself with the reserves.
Shabalala can be optimistic of his chance, given that other players have made their way into the first team, having come up from the Amakhosi academy. Sabelo Radebe, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Happy Mashiane, and Njabulo Blom are now all part of the first-team setup at the club.
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela says the club needs striker of Peter Shalulile's quality to compete
In other Amakhosi news, former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela believes that the Amakhosi need a Peter Shalulile-level striker to ever hope of competing again, Sports Brief earlier reported.
The Namibian has been nothing short of deadly for Mamelodi Sundowns this season. Shalulile has scored 17 goals in 29 goals across all competitions, including a league-leading 13 in the DStv Premiership.
Soccer Laduma quoted Mphela as saying that there was not a striker of Shalulile's quality available currently in the league. Instead, he suggested they show the same kind of scouting knowledge that helped them land Zambian forward Collins Mbesuma nearly 20 years ago.
