Royal AM may currently hold DStv Premiership status, but the club is determined to be declared the GladAfrica Champions for the 2020/2021 season.

The club last year approached the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland and have finally been given a date for their hearing.

Royal AM’s case stems from the 2020/2021 GladAfrica Championship final league position. Royal AM was on top, giving them automatic qualification into the DStv Premiership. However, the South African Football Association’s arbitrator, Hilton Epstein, ruled that Sekhukhune be declared as the first division champions.

Sekhukhune were granted three points and a victory over for a disputed game that they had with Polokwane City. That case was handled separately, The Citizen reported.

With the extra three points from the ruling, Sekhukhune United displaced Royal AM at the top of the GladAfrica Championship and were promoted to the DStv Premiership.

Royal AM were scheduled to compete in the playoffs for a spot in the Premiership but instead bought out Bloemfontein Celtic, thereby gaining automatic DStv Premiership status. They then sold their first division status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).

With the case now finally being heard, Royal AM could still be declared as the GLadAfrica Champions. The Premier Soccer League and Sekhukhune United FC is opposing the matter, though.

Royal AM's owner, Shauwn Mkhize took the matter to the highest court available to her as she felt that her club had been done an injustice.

Leruma Thobejane, the legal representative of Royal AM, said that they were contesting Epstein’s ruling, which then would mean Royal AM should get the winners trophy, medals and cash prize that goes to the winner of the first division, Sunday World said.

Royal AM's Andile Mpisane shows off his soccer skills, fans aren't impressed with the Chairman's performance

In other news relating to the club, Royal AM’s Andile Mpisane may be the youngest club chairperson in the Premier Soccer League, but fans aren’t impressed with his football skills on the field.

Andile Mpisane showed off his skills when he took to the field this past weekend for the Royal AM Reserves side in the DStv Diski Challenge as they beat Stellenbosch by two goals to one, Sports Brief earlier reported.

But it wasn’t the result that had people talking, it was Mpisane’s football skill. A video shared to Twitter showing Mpisane trying an elaborate pass had fans laughing at the attempt. While some did applaud his attempt, others felt that Andile needs to take the matter more seriously before he competes again.
