  • Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti had a track record for not making many substitutions during games
  • Ancelotti only made all 5 substitutions after the 80th-minute mark in yesterday's game against Deportivo Alaves
  • Fans were quick to make fun on social media of Ancelotti for his reluctance to make changes during a game

Carlo Ancelotti has one of the toughest coaching roles in football as the coach of Real Madrid.

The Los Blancos boss is constantly in the spotlight and his recent decisions have shone that spotlight even more so on him.

Real Madrid beat Deportivo Alaves in La Liga last night, Soccer Laduma reported, but Ancelotti’s reluctance to make any substitutions had many fans questioning his decision. Ancelotti only brought his first substitute after the 80th minute, once Real Madrid had gone 2-0 up.

He then made all five permitted substitutions in the space of a few minutes.

Ancelotti has a track record of not trusting some of his players that much, opting to leave them on the bench no matter how bad the team is performing on the field.

Speaking after the game, Ancelotti explained that he was pleased by what he saw in the second half and hence didn’t rush to make changes, Infinite Madrid reported on Twitter.

Social media though found the funny side and fans couldn’t help but poke fun of the Real Madrid boss.

@ConnCFC:

"Chelsea need to free Hazard from the shackles of Ancelotti"

@Vintage_Cfc:

"Eden Hazard doesn’t deserve the treatment he gets man. It’s these types of games he should be starting but Ancelotti would rather play his nan than Hazard."

@RMadridEngineer:

"Carlo Ancelotti was never into major rotations since his AC Milan days which is why he never did well in League football. He’s a tournament specialist, destroys teams on his day & is heavily reliant on his “Talisman”. Earlier it was Ronaldo & now it’s Benzema."

Real Madrid beat Deportivo Alavés 3:0, Los Blancos overcome a sluggish start to pick up a valuable win

Real Madrid went seven points clear in La Liga thanks to a 3-0 win over Deportivo Alaves. Marco Asensio, Vinícius Júnior and Karim Benzema all got onto the scoreline in the second half to give Los Blancos the victory.

The first half could best be described as a snooze fest. The commentators even mentioned at the start of the second half, that if anyone had missed the first 45 minutes, they actually didn’t miss much.

In a game that Sports Brief monitored, Federico Valverde missed a good chance in the 11th minute and Benzema fired a freekick way over the bar in the 20th. Jason had the best chance of the game for either team as he blazed over the crossbar from close range, denying Alavés a chance to take the lead.
