Odion Ighalo on Thursday, 17 February, punished his former club Al Shabab as the Super Eagles striker scored a brace against them for Al Hilal in perfect 5-0 win in Saudi Pro League game.

After their unsuccessful challenge against Chelsea in the Club World Cup in which Romelu Lukaku's goal gave the Blues a win over Al Hilal in the semifinal, the club returned to winning ways.

This encounter against Al Shabab was Odion Ighalo's debut for Al Hilal and the Nigerian striker made the club's fans happy by scoring a brace.

Odion Ighalo scored his first goal in the 18th minute and he later found the back of the net, just two minutes before halftime to give the Boss a four-goal lead.

Meanwhile, after 18 games played so far this season, Odion Ighalo and his teammates at Al Hilal are occupying fourth position on the Saudi Pro League table with 34 points.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Odion Ighalo finally stated clearly that those in charge of Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab were the ones who stopped him from going to the 2021 African Cup of Nations with Super Eagles.

Odion Ighalo made return to the Nigerian national team last year after going on leave for two years and football lovers were expecting him to play Super Eagles at the AFCON.

His name was among the final list the NFF announced for the 2021 African Cup of Nations, but Odion Ighalo did not show up.

Victor Osimhen who would have led the attack for the Super Eagles was also not available due to injury and Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar had to lead the attack for Nigeria at AFCON 2021.
