Just when we thought we had seen it all, Italian club AS Roma has pulled yet another surprise on their loyal fans here in Kenya.

As reported, the Italian giants have an odd romance with Kenyan fans and it was exhibited when marathoner Eliud Kipchoge smashed the INEOS 1:59 challenge on Saturday, October 12.

Among the big clubs to cheer Kipchoge on through social media was Roma, which went a step further by actually tweeting in Swahili after one Kenyan fan dared them to.

Responding to an ordinary mwananchi is a huge statement in itself but to actually take up the challenge and try to communicate in a foreign language earned the Roma admin all the credit he deserved from Kenyans.

On Wednesday, October 16, Kenyans were treated to yet another delightful surprise after they learnt that AS Roma had actually gone the extra mile and created a Swahili account.

Roma, being an Italian club, is pre-dominantly focused in growing their following by targeting their native Italians.

But in recent times, the club’s social media handlers have gone a step further as they have incorporated other languages in their social media, with Swahili being the latest addition.

The official Swahili page went official on Wednesday with the trademark video which left Kenyans overjoyed.

Head of Digital at Roma Paul Rogers explained that the move to create a Swahili page was motivated by Roma's desire to reach out to fans from all over the world, including Kenya.

"Considering the passion the fans have for European football, it’s actually surprising that no football club outside of Africa has attempted to communicate daily in Swahili and Pidgin before on social media." he said.
