- The Black Stars won the tournament in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 and the replica ones kept as winner have all not been found
- Ghana has not won the tournament since 1982 and has a poor Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Cameroon this year
The four Africa Cup of Nations trophies won by Ghana have been reported missing, according to multiple reports in the local media.
Ghana won the tournament in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982, but all four trophies including the Abdelaziz Abdallah Salem Trophy which was for keeps cannot be found.
According to Ghana's Sports Writers Journalist of the year, Saddick Adams, attempts to find the whereabouts of the four times has not been fruitful.
"You know that CAF gives you a replica when you win the trophy but then, you get the golden one when you win it for keeps [three times],” he said on Angel FM, on the show he hosts at the station.
“Before the 2019 AFCON, I asked questions about the four trophies that we have won and I was told that we lost the trophies during the Coup when the National Sports Council Office was ransacked.”
Under CAF's regulations, when a country wins the Africa Cup of Nations, they are given a replica of the title and when they win it three times they have if for keeps.
Only three countries have won the trophy for keeps. Egypt, Ghana and Cameroon are the countries to have achieve such a feat.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Youth and Sports reported few years ago, it has found the Abdelaziz Abdallah Salem Trophy.
