  • Damning reports emerged this week suggesting England players at Manchester United were unhappy with Cristiano Ronaldo
  • The report claimed Cristiano was forming his own ‘clique’ in the United dressing room to do things his own way
  • Rashford took to Twitter on Wednesday to question the legitimacy of the explosive rumours

Marcus Rashford has responded to damning reports suggesting there is unrest within the Manchester United dressing room because of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The report sensationally claimed Ronaldo had ‘irritated’ Rashford and a number of English Manchester United players as the Portugal star was forming a ‘clique’ of his own in the Unite dressing room.

It was further alleged by a German journalist that Ronaldo wanted to ‘lead the dressing room with his own clique’.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, 16 February, Rashford questioned the claims with a stern statement.

"Are we just making it up as we go along now then?," Rashford wrote. “Please stop looking for divides,”

Reports of a rift at Old Trafford are nothing new, and in January, the Mirror broke a story of how interim boss Ralf Rangnick faced an uphill task of appeasing a number of unhappy players.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning return back to the club in last summer’s transfer window was expected to help elevate the club to perhaps push for the title this season, but not even the 37-year old’s return has changed United’s fortunes.

Ronaldo back among the goals

Despite criticism surrounding Ronaldo’s role in the Manchester United squad, the former Real Madrid man has been important for his side this season.

His numbers might suggest he is past his prime, but his 15 goals in 27 appearances so far this season have helped United have a say in the top four race.

Ronaldo opened his account for 2022 with a goal as United beat Brighton in the Premier League on Tuesday, 15 February.

He took to social media moments after the win to send a message to his teammates that said:

"Back on track! Nobody gives up and there's only one way to get back on track: hard work, team work, serious work," the Portuguese wrote. "Everything else is just noise. Let's go Devils!"

3 European giants monitoring Ronaldo's situation

As far as Ronaldo’s future is concerned, at least three clubs are interested in his signature if he decides to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

European giants Bayern Munich, AS Roma and Paris Saint-Germain, are all preparing their respective bids for the Portuguese striker.

Although he has ended his goal drought scoring in United’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday night, reports say all is not well with Ronaldo’s camp at Old Trafford as he has become disillusioned in Manchester.
