FootballBaroka FC's Richard Mbulu Scores Contender for DStv Premiership Goal of the Month Against Mamelodi Sundowns
- Baroka FC forward Richard Mbulu made headlines with a sensational goal against Mamelodi Sundowns
- The goal is easily a DStv Premiership Goal of the Month contender and it will take a strike for the ages to dislodge it in the month of February
- The dramatic nature of the goal was enhanced by its lateness, with Mbulu lashing the ball in with literally the last kick of the match
Baroka FC forward Richard Mbulu has laid down the marker with a contender for the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month already.
The Malawian, who was part of the Flames 2021 African Cup of Nations squad, helped Bakgaga ba Mphahlele secure a well-deserved draw against runaway log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns. He scored the wonder strike in with what was literally the last kick of the game against the Brazilians.
Sports Brief followed the gripping encounter as Baroka hosted Sundowns at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium Stadium in Polokwane. With the clock on 94:54 (54 seconds more than the additional time of four minutes), Mbulu made his mark.
He pounced on a hit-and-hope cross into the Sundowns box, which was cleared by a defender. Displaying incredible awareness and technique, Mbulu ran backwards without knowing where the goals were, swivelling on his right foot and lashing the ball with his left.
Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango dove desperately to his right, only adding to the picturesque nature of the goal as the ball nestled in the top-left corner of the net.
According to Supersport.com, the result robbed the visitors of the opportunity to increase their lead on the log to 20 points, instead having to make do with a handy 18.
Incidentally, SowetanLIVE quoted their assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi as blaming a "poor pitch and bad lighting" for the draw.
Malawian Gabadinho Mhango's AFCON 2021 Goal of the Tournament contender captures world football's attention
In a wonderfully coincidental turn of events, Richard Mbulu's compatriot and teammate at AFCON 2021 Gabadinho Mhango also scored a Goal of the Tournament contender.

FootballSports Brief reported that world football reverberated because of Mhango's outrageous goal against Morocco, which the Flames lost courageously 2-1.
Mhango's goal came in the seventh minute of the match, with the striker receiving the ball from John Banda from inside Malawi's own half. The striker took that pass and cut towards goal before rifling a shot from 35 metres out.
