The 37-year-old headed into the game having scored 14 goals in 26 games this season for the Red Devils.

However, the former Real Madrid superstar endured his worst goal duck for more than a decade after playing 587 minutes without hitting the back of the net.

After a boring first half which ended 0-0, Ronaldo took matters into his own hands to unleash an unstoppable strike past goalkeeper Robert Sanchez in the second period of the game.

His goal sparked celebration among his fanbase on Twitter.

@SOffvcial believes that Ronaldo is the greatest player the world has ever seen.

This Tweet is for Cristiano Ronaldo!!! The greatest man to ever kick the ball. Long May you reign Ororo!!!!

@nkdikohtv tweeted that, Ronaldo, who has been accused as the player holding Manchester United back, scored to rescue his team against Brighton.

The problem just scored #mufc #MUNBHA

@tansley_nathan opined that it will take more than one goalkeeper to stop Ronaldo's goal from hitting the back of the net.

What a goal Ronaldo need 2 keepers to save that #MUFC

@extremefootbal4 hailed Ronaldo for producing yet another clutch moment at age 37.

I’m still in awe of what I saw tonight. Delivering a man of the match performance and scoring a clutch goal in an important game in the toughest league in the world, at the golden age of 37, is just astonishing. Never doubt greatness. He is not man, he is Ronaldo.

@thereddevil2510 believes 37-year-old Ronaldo scored like a younger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo rolled back the years with the way he scored that goal today. #MUFC
