Inside Man United's plan to reward De Gea
The Sun now reports United chiefs are planning to trigger a 12-month option to extend the Spanish keeper’s contract to June 2024.
The move is expected to buy time for the Manchester club as they push to thrash out fresh terms for their No.1.
That means the Spaniard can still expect to pick up something close to his huge £375,000 a week wages and be guaranteed the security of a longer-term contract.
The development signals a remarkable turnaround for De Gea who had appeared to have lost his spot to Dean Henderson.
