It’s been a bad news weekend for Kaizer Chiefs fans, and it’s only gotten worse with news that defender Njabulo Ngcobo has suffered severe burns and will be out of action for the foreseeable future.

Fans were questioning why the player was absent during Kaizer Chiefs’ defeat to TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup, but coach Stuart Baxter has since explained the reason for the player not being available.

Speaking to KickOff, Baxter explained that Ngcobo has suffered the burns before the match, describing it as ‘some of the worse burns he’s seen on a footballer.’

With Ngcobo unavailable for selection until he recovers, and Chiefs out of the Nedbank Cup, fans have very little to celebrate.

Amakhosi supporters have been critical of Baxter’s use of Ngcobo since he signed for the Soweto giants. Despite being a defender, Baxter has chosen to play Ngcobo in the midfield. Since signing for Chiefs in June 2021, Ngcobo has only played two games as a defender.

Baxter made matters worse when he recently said that the player must prove that he was the best defender at Kaizer Chiefs if he wanted to play as a defender, The South African reported.

With those comments in mind and his absence from the Nedbank Cup team, fans ranted at Baxter and his decisions. Here’s what they had to say on social media:

@Zakhele:

"What happened to Njabulo Ngcobo? that’s the question."

@JoemanMakashane:

"@KaizerChiefs is disjointed and dysfunctional in the midfield, Njabulo Ngcobo must go back to his position CB, I can't take this anymore"

@JLMokwena:

"Njabulo Blom is there. Njabulo Ngcobo is not on the matchday squad"

Nedbank Cup: TS Galaxy's lightning strikes twice as they embarrass Kaizer Chiefs in the cup again

TS Galaxy claimed the big scalp of Kaizer Chiefs once more in the Nedbank Cup after running out 1-0 victors at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening to advance to the round of 16, Sports Brief reported.

Augustine Chidi Kwem scored the only goal of the encounter in the 54th minute as the Rockets produced another shock result against Amakhosi, having previously beaten them in the 2019 Nedbank Cup final.

Kaizer Chiefs have now been dumped out of the tournament in the very first round, for the second time in a row. Last season they were surprisingly knocked out of the cup by Richards Bay in the round of 32.
