The last 16 teams remaining in this year's Nedbank Cup have been confirmed, with the draw set to take place later today.
Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy, Mamelodi Sundowns, Swallows FC, TTM, Marumo Gallants, SuperSport United and Royal AM are the last remaining teams from the Premier Soccer League remaining in the tournament.
Joining them in the draw will be Black Eagles, Sinenkani, Platinum City Rovers, Mathaithai, NC Pros, Summerfield Dynamos, Venda Football Academy and the University of Pretoria from the lower leagues of South African football.
The PSL stated in a Facebook post that the draw for the round will be made this evening at 6pm. SuperSport confirmed that it would be broadcast on Channel 202 (SuperSport PSL).
In an unusual turn of events, there are exactly eight teams from the top division remaining in the competition. They will have to negotiate eight teams from the National First Division and ABC Motsepe League to get ever closer to the most prestigious cup competition in the country.
News24 reported that TS Galaxy, while still in the first division, was the first lower division team to win the tournament in 2019, when they upset cup kings Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 to win the dramatic final. The Rockets repeated the feat of beating the Amakhosi this past weekend as per the IOL.
