Israel Adesanya has sent a strong warning to his middleweight rivals following his clinical attitude to beat Robert Whittaker by unanimous decision at UFC 271 in Houston, MMA fighting reports.

Adesanya was matched by Whittaker who looked to bridge the gap quality between himself and the Nigerian after they earlier met in Melbourne in 2019.

Whittaker endured pulsating punches in the latter stages of the bout, but he was also impressive having earlier vowed to showcase his improvements and avenge that loss at the Toyota Center.

But he appeared destined to suffer a similar fate to his first match-up with the middleweight king when he was stunned and floored in the first round by The Last Stylebender.

Yet he failed to register anything of real concern as Adesanya closed out a unanimous decision victory, with the judges scoring the contest 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 in The Last Stylebender's favour.

He pushed towards the end and tried to get more takedowns in, but Adesanya showed off his strength and experience as he negotiated it with ease.

With time running out, Whittaker tried in vain to finish off Adesanya, tying him up against the cage, but the champ looked comfortable, still landing shots from the clinch.

At the end of the bout, Adesanya said via Daily Mail:

“I knew he was going to bring everything, because last time I took everything away from him, he had nothing to lose.
“I tried to get his leg, but once he realised he was hurt he was tentative with it. Kudos to his boxing coaches.
“I knew he was going to try and copy Jan's homework but I'm the big dog in this yard so he couldn't take me down.”
