Ghanaian forward Antoine Elorm Semenyo has been adjudged Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for January following his impressive performance for Bristol City.
In the month of January, the 22-year-old forward was on target three times and registered three assists for Bristol City in the English Championship.
Semenyo overcame strong contenders from Blackpool FC goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw, Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and QPR midfielder Chris Willock to win the award.
According to the judging panel of Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies, Semenyo's blistering form for his club was enough to secure the accolade.
“It was a great honour to be nominated in the first place and to win the award is very special,” Semenyo said after winning the award for the first time.
“Our performances have improved since the New Year and credit to all the players and staff – we are definitely heading in the right direction. I’ve just got to keep working hard for the team and doing my job.”
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Semenyo has reportedly shown interest in switching allegiance to play for the Black Stars of Ghana.
Having played 17 matches this campaign for Bristol City, Semenyo has grabbed five goals and recorded six assists so far.
Ghana FA hold talks with Semenyo
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Ghana Football Association has taken the initiative to convince English-born striker Antoine Semenyo to represent Ghana at the international level.
The London-born forward, who plays for Bristol City has been in good form in the English championship, raising the eyebrows of the federation.
According to reports, the 22-year-old has agreed to play for the Black Stars of Ghana pending approval from the Federation of International Football (FIFA).
