FootballPep Guardiola Snubs Man City, Names Premier League Rivals as Best Club in The World
- Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has brushed off suggestions that the club are the best team in the world
- According to the Spaniard, Chelsea and Argentina's River Plate are the two best clubs owing to their recent successes at the continental stage
- City have earned plaudits in recent weeks owing to their fine run of results that has them sitting on the summit of the standings with 60 points
Man City boss Pep Guardiola has declared rivals Chelsea the best club in the world alongside Argentina giants, River Plate.
Guardiola made the declaration amid suggestions City are the best side after they stretched their lead at the top of the standings to 12 points.
Man City cement place on the summit
The champions stunned Brentford 2-0 on Wednesday night, February 9, to cement their already firm grip on the title race.
Goals from Riyad Mahrez and Kebin De Bruyne in either half of the encounter were enough to earn the Citizens the win.
The Manchester club's form continues to attract plaudits from fans and pundits, with many hailing the side as the best in the world.
Guardiola singles out Chelsea, River Plate for praise
However, Guardiola believes rivals Chelsea and River Plate are unarguably the best teams in the world currently.
The Spaniard cited the two teams' recent successes at the continental stages, with the Blues lifting the Champions League under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel.
"We are not the best team in the world. The best team is Chelsea, who won the Champions League, or River Plate, who won in South America," he said.
"This type of thing about who is the best, I don't care. Just be happy and try to play better every day," he added.
