The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) which is the largest animal welfare charity in the UK has taken into care the two cats owned by West Ham United star Kurt Zouma, The Athletic reports.
Zouma has also been fined a staggering £250,000 after footage showed the moment he kicked and slapped one of his cats in his mansion.
A clip exclusively obtained by SunSport captured the 27-year-old dropping the animal from a height about his chest then kicking it upon landing.
Another scene captured the moment the player threw a pair of shoes at the cat before he then handed it a slap.
Zouma has been heavily criticised as West Ham United assured that the player will face the consequences of his actions internally.
RSPCA releases strong statement
An RSPCA spokesperson said, as per Mirror:
“The two cats are now in RSPCA care. Our priority is and has always been the well-being of these cats.
“They’ve been taken for a check-up at a vets and then will remain in our care while the investigation continues.
“We’re grateful to everyone who expressed their concern for these cats. We were dealing with this issue before the video went viral online and are leading the investigation.
“We continue to investigate so we cannot comment further at this time.”

Thousands sign petition
Sports Brief earlier reported that a petition calling for the prosecution of Kurt Zouma has gone viral on the internet, with well over 80,000 signatures already, as at the time of filing this report.
The defender was in West Ham’s starting lineup in their 1-0 win over Watford and manager David Moyes is under heavy criticism for fielding the Frenchman.
He could be facing serious prosecution after being spotted angrily kicking and slapping his pet cat in his kitchen at his mansion.
