Augustine Eguavoen has been praised by the Amaju Pinnick who is the president of the Nigerian Football Federation for his performances with the Super Eagles at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
The 2021 African Cup of Nations came to an end on Sunday in Cameroon with Senegal emerging champions after beating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the final.
Expectations of many Nigerians was for the Super Eagles to reach the final of the African Cup of Nations, but they crashed out in the round of 16 losing against Tunisia.
What was their result before facing Tunisia?
Super Eagles started their campaign well winning their first three matches in the competition and they were tipped to reach the final before the defeat against Tunisia.
According to the report on Complete Sports and The Cable, Amaju Pinnick explained that Augustine Eguavoen gave the players good chance to express themselves at AFCON.

“Eguavoen did well and he provided good leadership in the team. He gave the team freedom to express themselves, but trust me there can be more to it in terms of the way we want to win.
“Generally, I commended him for what he did with the team. He took the job at short notice and he was able to deliver.
“He won three games convincingly. The only team in the tournament to do that in the first round.''

This latest development coming from the Nigerian Football Federation means that Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro will no longer be taking charge of the Super Eagles.
In an announcement made by the Nigerian Football Federation, they made it clear that they want Eguavoen to continue so as for the players to concentrate.
Having crashed out at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in the knockout stage, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will now shift their focus to the coming final World Cup qualifiers against Ghana.
