Orlando Pirates is looking to solve a position that has been uncertain for a very long time, according to reports.
Goalkeeper has been a headache for the team since the passing of the late great Senzo Meyiwa in November 2014. Pirates fans have had to sit through a period since then during which various comers have had limited success in making the number one jersey their own undisputedly.
Now, with Wayne Sandilands set to retire at the end of the season as suggested by the Citizen, the Buccaneers are on the market to finally solve the riddle bugging them for nearly nine years.
The Buccaneers have Richard Ofori, who is making his way back following a lengthy injury, Siyabonga Mpontshane, and young keeper Kopano Thuntsane.
A source told Phakaaathi:
“[Sandiland's] contract will definitely not be renewed this time. There is already a search to bring on board a goalkeeper at the club. I mean, he is 38-years-old. He has been wanting to retire for some time now, it’s just that there were lots of things happening at the club with goalkeepers getting injured and not being able to find a suitable replacement."
As reported by KickOff, 30-year-old SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is on the club's raider, though it will have to dig deep into the pockets in order to land the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper.
