Veteran defender Khalidou Koulibaly could not help it but to console young defender Abdoulmoneim of Egypt after Senegal's AFCON victory over the North Africans.

Ahmed Abdoulmoneim shed tears of pain after seeing his side lose to Senegal on penalties in the final, but Koulibaly quickly moved to him to inspire after showing glimpses of a promising future at the Nations Cup.

In a video posted on Twitter, Koulibaly in seen given a hug to the defender as he showered him with words of encouragement.

Khalidou Koulibaly missed the 2019 final due to suspension but was available for the Senegalese this time, leading them to glory.

Meanwhile, it was Abdoulmoneim's first Africa Cup of Nations tournament, where he impressed, making the team of the tournament ahead of Koulibaly.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that newly-crowned TotalEnergies AFCON 2021 winners, Sadio Mane and Edouard Mendy, and Egyptian forward, Mohammed Salah have been included in the Confederation of African Football’s best team of the just-ended tournament.

The announced of the team was done on Monday evening and it was a collection of the tournament’s best players as determined by the Technical Study Group that was tasked with assessing the football played during the tournament and choosing the various best players from all the matches that were contested during the competition.

In addition to Salah, Mane and Mendy, there were players like Achraf Hakimi of Morocco, Edmund Tapsoba of Burkina Faso and Vincent Aboubakar of Cameroon who all made the starting eleven.

Senegal get heroes welcome on arrival

Sadio Mane and teammates were treated to a heroes' welcome on their return to Senegal following their historic Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory.

Aliou Cisse's side lifted their first major tournament trophy by beating Egypt on penalties in the final at the Olembe stadium in Cameroon on Sunday.

Mane scored the all important penalty to help the Teranga Lions defeat Egypt 4-2 during shootouts after the game ended on stalemate after extra time.
