Man United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has hit a new milestone in his life, but this time off the pitch.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has become the first person in the world to garner 400 million followers on Instagram.

Ronaldo, who has a total of 3242 posts on his profile hit the achievement on the height of his 37th birthday which he marked on Saturday, February 5.

Despite his massive followership, the Portuguese talisman follows only just 501 profiles on Instagram.

American model and media personality, Kylie Jenner, is the second-most followed person on Instagram, commanding huge followership of over 308 million followers.

Paris Saint-Germain ace Lionel Messi is currently placed third with 306 million having recently crossed the 300 million followership mark.

While celebrating his 37th birthday, Ronaldo thanked everyone for sending him best wishes and sweet messages as he turned a year older.

"Life is a roller coaster. Hard work, high speed, urgent goals, demanding expectations… But in the end, it all comes down to family, love, honesty, friendship, values that make it all worth it," the United star posted on Instagram.

"Thanks for all the messages! 37 and counting!" he added in a post which has since garnered more than 13 million likes.
