Ghana FA set to appoint Former Newcastle United Manager As New Black Stars Coach
FootballSulley Muntari Plays Against His Former Teammate's Son In The Ghana Premier League
- Sulley Muntari defied all logic and science by playing against father and son of the same family.
- The ex-Ghanaian midfielder made his debut for Hearts of Oak against Great Olympics over the weekend
- He played on the same field Stephen with Rodney Appiah, son of his former teammate Stephen Appiah.
It is very uncommon for a player to play against his teammate's son but that is exactly what Sulley Muntari has done on Sunday.
During the Accra-derby match in the Ghana Premier League, the legendary Ghanaian international achieved a feat that not any other players in history will ever accomplish.
The 37-year-old lined up for Hearts of Oak's 1-0 defeat against Great Olympics, with 19-year-old Rodney Appiah featuring for the Dade Boys, 12 years after his father Stephen Appiah last played alongside Muntari during the 2010 World Cup.
Stephen Appiah posted a video on Twitter, that saw his son, Rodney, man-marking Muntari, with the caption:
"After playing with Sulley Muntari for many years it's a great JOY to see my SON Rodney Appiah playing against him,"
Muntari and Appiah senior have been on opposing sides as well. The pair played against each other in 2004 during a Serie A clash between Udinese and Juventus. Muntari played the full 90 minutes of the game whiles Appiah came on as a substitute, with both players receiving yellow cards in the game.
Stephen Appiah retired 10 years ago, finishing his career with Serbian side Vojvodina. He represented Ghana at the youth, Olympic, and senior levels - captaining the Black Stars at their World Cup debut in 2006 and at the 2010 World Cup.
It's hard to believe that Muntari has played on the same pitch as two generations of the same family, but the ex-AC Milan midfielder has proven that with determination, anything is possible.
